The New F1 2010 Points System

For the upcoming 2010 season, there will be a new points system.

From: 1st 10pts, 2nd 8pts, 3rd 6pts, 4th 5pts, 5th 4pts, 6th 3pts, 7th 2pts, 8th 1pt.

To: 1st 25pts, 2nd 20pts, 3rd 15pts, 4th 10pts, 5th 8pts, 6th 6pts, 7th 5pts, 8th 3pts, 9th 2pts, 10th 1pt.

Personally I feel it’s just another silly rule change, and why on earth is 7th worth 5pts with 8th being worth 3pts?!

If the FIA had to change it at all, for the reason of having 13 teams instead of 10, I would propose: 1st 20pts, 2nd 15pts, 3rd 10pts, 4th 7pts, 5th 6pts, 6th 5pts, 7th 4pts, 8th 3pts, 9th 2pts, 10th 1pt.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of making the gap between 1st, 2nd and 3rd bigger, therefore making it juicier to fight for just one more position!

But having said that, the current points (2003-2009) is just fine.

This could still change though, Stefano Domenicali has said it may yet still be adjusted… http://ow.ly/WCRA
